  This diagram illustrates some of the roles place-based social service non-government organisations (NGOs) may play in the disaster management cycle. Understanding your role, or potential roles, can help your service plan, prepare and contribute to disaster support.

• Community Resilience, Wellbeing and Recovery Project Resources

  The Commission contracted the NSW Council of Social Service (NCOSS) to identify the factors which support community resilience and build community recovery following natural disasters, including drought, bushfires and floods. Organisations and groups of organisations can use these resources to define organisational capacity and roles and plan how they will work with government and large organisations disaster in disaster relief and recovery. Resources include:

• Justice Connect Disaster Legal Toolkit

  The Disaster Legal Toolkit provides guidance to help your not-for-profit organisation navigate disaster-related legal questions and issues, such as work health and safety issues, complying with employment laws, securing more funding, insurance implications and contractual obligations.

• Resilient Community Organisations Toolkit

  Organisations and groups of organisations can use this resource to define organisational risk and complete business continuity plans. The Toolkit includes a benchmarking system so organisations can assess their current state of preparedness for disasters and emergencies and identify areas of improvement.
