This role would suit a dynamic, energetic person that would like to make an impact by supporting women of migrant and refugee backgrounds, especially in a DFSV context.
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
SpeakOut is a key organisation for migrant and refugee women within NSW. We support women experiencing domestic and family violence or who are at risk of homelessness due to violence or abuse. We empower them providing information, guidance and other direct services. We help them access the resources they need to live independently, free from violence, exploitation and discrimination.
We also help women break down the structural barriers that would otherwise prevent them from participating fully in society.
About the role
The CEO has overall strategic and operational responsibility for staff, programs, expansion and execution of IWSA’ mission. The role works with the management committee to deliver the organisation’s strategic vision, strengthen partnerships across NSW and elevate the voice of CALD women across NSW. The CEO is responsible for strategic and financial oversight, day-day operating of the organisation and two shelters, including staff management, fundraising strategy, strategic partnerships, team culture and program/funding outcomes.
The Executive Officer is accountable for organisational governance, compliance with state and national regulatory obligations, and oversight of due diligence processes.
DUTIES
1. Support and implement the strategic vision of the organization toward a thriving future, as developed together with staff and board.
2. Manage all operations including: management of facilities and staff, recruitment of staff, finances and budgeting, client wellbeing, project development, record keeping, reporting requirements to funding bodies, the board and as determined by law and accreditation requirements.
3. With support of the board, ensure the financial future of the service by applying for grants, endeavor to raise funds and day-to-day monitoring of expenditure.
4. To represent and advocate for the needs of migrant and refugee women, especially those experiencing violence in relevant fora, including round tables, conferences, departmental meetings and others.
5. Development and updating of policies and procedures to ensure efficient
operations but also contributing to policy development of the government in the context of advocacy.
6. Any other duties as relevant and as discussed with the committee.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
The Successful Candidate:
To be successful in this role, you will have the following:
- Commitment to and understanding of the provision of services from a feminist and a culturally responsive lens.
- Extensive experience in management/staff supervision/human resource management and demonstrated experience in building an excellent workplace culture.
- Demonstrated ability in strategic planning and experience and knowledge in policy development and implementation.
- Financial and risk management skills.
- An understanding of the causes, consequences and prevention of sexual domestic and family violence as it relates to CALD women.
- Knowledge of the domestic and family violence and NGO sector
- Knowledge of and commitment of anti-racism principles and approaches.
- Knowledge and experience of running a women’s shelter and/or refuge would be highly desirable.
