Be instrumental in developing and delivering educational resources to improve the experiences of LGBTQ+ people in their workplaces, accessing healthcare, and participating in sports.

Ever wanted to combine your training expertise with your passion for supporting LGBTQ+ communities? ACON’s Pride Inclusion Programs is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic educator to design and deliver impactful LGBTQ+ inclusion training across our national suite of programs. In this role, you will develop and design educational content for our three membership programs—Pride in Diversity, Pride in Sport, and Pride in Health + Wellbeing—as well as for Pride Training, our public‑facing, fee‑for‑service education offering. You will also facilitate the delivery of standard training sessions to program members, helping organisations build safer, more inclusive environments for LGBTQ+ people through high‑quality, evidence‑based inclusion education.

What’s ACON’s Pride Inclusion Programs you say?

ACON’s Pride Inclusion Programs (APIP) comprises three national membership programs that support organisations to advance LGBTQ+ inclusion across key sectors: Australian workplaces (Pride in Diversity), Australian sport (Pride in Sport), and Australian health and wellbeing services (Pride in Health + Wellbeing). These programs provide sector‑specific expertise, tailored organisational support, and rigorous, evidence‑based LGBTQ+ inclusion education designed to strengthen knowledge, build confidence, and improve the culture and lived experience of LGBTQ+ people.

Alongside these membership programs, APIP also delivers Pride Training, ACON’s public‑facing, fee‑for‑service education offering. Pride Training provides core LGBTQ+ inclusion education, a suite of eLearning courses, and the ability to develop bespoke training solutions tailored to the needs of individual organisations. This work draws on the breadth of expertise across ACON’s Pride Inclusion Programs and our specialist instructional design capability, ensuring all training is grounded in contemporary evidence, best practice, and high‑quality learning design.

Ok, so what’s the role?

This position sits within the Quality, Training and Research (QTR) unit, which provides industry‑leading research, evidence‑based educational content, and quality assurance to support the vision and delivery of ACON’s Pride Inclusion Programs (APIP). QTR ensures all offerings across the division remain current, accurate, and consistent. This includes oversight of training content, index processes, data extraction and reporting, and the quality and consistency of all educational outputs across membership programs, fee‑for‑service training, and external research partnerships.

The Instructional Designer and Trainer will support the development, design, and delivery of educational content across all four APIP programs—Pride in Diversity, Pride in Sport, Pride in Health + Wellbeing, and Pride Training. This includes contributing to the creation of eLearning modules, facilitating instructor‑led training, and working with organisations to develop tailored training solutions that respond to their unique needs through evidence‑based learning strategies.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Instructional Design and Training Manager, Program Leads, clients, and other subject matter experts and stakeholders to understand key audiences, identify learning objectives, and shape training approaches that meet the specific needs of each organisation. You will also support the development of the resources required to deliver these plans effectively, ensuring all education is grounded in contemporary evidence, best practice, and high‑quality instructional design methodologies. The role blends strategic learning design with hands‑on facilitation, contributing directly to improved LGBTQ+ inclusion across workplaces, sporting environments, health services, and the broader community.

You will:

  • Work closely with the Instructional Design and Training Manager, membership Programs Leads, clients, and other SMEs and stakeholders to develop, create, and deliver Pride-in Programs educational content.
  • Lead content development projects for all Pride in- programs (PID, PIS, PIHW, PT), including accompanying resources, decks, facilitator guides and ad-hoc supplementary content
  • Develop evidence‑based eLearning courses that drive strong engagement and long‑term retention of key concepts.
  • Work collaboratively with subject matter experts to ensure all curricula is current, evidence-based and ethically delivered, with a particular focus on community safety and potential triggers.
  • Ensure currency, accuracy and consistency of messaging across all Pride in- training modules.
  • Build staff capability in new and updated content through user acceptance testing, socialisation of changes, and targeted train‑the‑trainer programs.
  • Support the design and content management of endorsed trainer programs.
  • Deliver facilitated training to fee-for-service customers.
  • Provide back-up training to support the membership program teams during peak activity.
  • Perform other duties to assist with the work of the division as requested by the Instructional Design and Training Manager.

Who are we looking for?:

  • 3–5 years’ experience designing and developing engaging, innovative evidence-based training and learning materials.
  • Demonstrated advanced application of best-practice learning methodologies (e.g., adult learning principles, ADDIE, COM-B, 70:20:10), including designing for diverse learner needs, typically gained through substantial relevant professional experience and/or formal study.
  • Proven experience developing facilitated learning (face-to-face and webinars), supported by high-quality learning collateral.
  • Expertise in eLearning authoring tools (Articulate Storyline/Rise) and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to design intuitive, accessible and engaging learning experiences that are fit for varied industries and professional contexts.
  • Ability to assess learning needs, define clear and measurable learning objectives, design fit‑for‑purpose learning strategies, and evaluate training effectiveness.
  • Experience collaborating with SMEs, stakeholders, customers and teams to analyse needs and design effective learning solutions.
  • Strong facilitation, presentation and communication skills, including confidence as a public speaker and educator.
  • Understanding of LGBTQ+ communities, including challenges faced in workplace, sport and/or health and wellbeing contexts.

Desirable

  • Specific qualifications in adult education.
  • Experience developing and delivering learning for senior leaders, executives and boards.
  • Coding skills (e.g. HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to customise eLearning, improve interactivity, and enhance front-end functionality.
