Disasters and community sector capacity: NCOSS Local Connect

March 17 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

This is a satellite event to NCOSS Local Connect social sector forum (Illawarra Shoalhaven + Southern NSW).

Heat, storms, bushfires, floods and drought. We know that severe weather is putting pressure on communities and people are increasingly turning to services like yours for support. Community service organisations (CSOs) are central to supporting communities in the face of a changing climate.

The NSW Council of Social Service’s (NCOSS) Community Organisations Disaster Adaptation (CODA) Project is holding a free workshop on how to build disaster preparedness and resilience among community service organisations and people most vulnerable to disaster impacts.

The workshop is for locally-based non-government organisations and networks in social services and community health in the Illawarra Shoalhaven and Southern NSW regions.

What can I expect?

  • Exploration of the main roles (current and potential) of the NSW community service sector across the disaster management cycle – relief, recovery, mitigation and preparedness.
  • Share your insights on the sector’s resourcing and development needs to respond to a changing climate. What are your organisational priorities? Staff wellbeing, facilities and equipment, organisational governance, WHS, networks?
  • The opportunity to share and workshop what is important to you and help to shape NCOSS and CODA advocacy.
  • Connection and collaboration with like-minded people in your area and create new networks.

Attendance is free with afternoon tea provided.

For all enquiries, contact the NCOSS Sector and Community Engagement Officer, Michelle Shackleton at michelle@ncoss.org.au.
