Childhood Obesity: An Equity Perspective
The Premier has recognised that childhood obesity is an ongoing concern, making it a priority to reduce overweight and obesity rates of children in NSW by 5% over 10 years. Low-income children are at much greater risk of being overweight, and we want to make sure they are the ones that benefit from efforts directed at achieving the Premier's priority. To this end, NCOSS has published a paper examining childhood obesity through an equity lens in order to inform discussions about the strategies needed to ensure that children from lower socioeconomic backgrounds benefit from responses to childhood obesity. NCOSS will be publishing a full report together with priority recommendations in the second half of 2016.
