NCOSS APPOINTS NEW CEO

NSW’s peak social services body, NCOSS, is very proud to announce the appointment of its new CEO, Cara Varian.

Ms Varian brings decades of experience across the not-for-profit, public service, political and corporate sectors, and will commence in the role on Monday 29 January 2024.

Ms Varian joins NCOSS from education charity Harding Miller Education Foundation, where she transformed the Foundation over eight years into a charity that has delivered more than $20 million in scholarships to high potential Year 9 girls from disadvantaged backgrounds.

NCOSS President John Robertson said Ms Varian has strong public policy skills and an in-depth understanding of the machinery of government.

“I am delighted to announce that Ms Cara Varian will lead NCOSS from 2024,” Mr Robertson said.

“Ms Varian is well credentialled for the position, having worked in both Federal and NSW Parliaments as an advisor and Chief of Staff for Ministers and an Opposition Leader.

“She has impeccable negotiation and advocacy skills that will be crucial to the success of NCOSS when furthering the cause of its members on important issues.

“I am confident that Ms Varian will build upon the considerable platform that NCOSS has developed over the years as an influential and important peak body in NSW.”

Ms Varian said: “I am thrilled to be joining and leading NCOSS in the new year. I am deeply committed to the values that the organisation represents including equity, justice, participation, and respect. I believe that these values are essential to creating a more just and equitable society for everyone in New South Wales.

“NCOSS plays an essential role in raising the voices of those members of our society who are often not invited to the decision-making table. Equally important is its duty to hold the NSW Government to account on matters that impact its members.

“As our members know, social services are most effective when delivery is tailored, holistic and community-informed. I look forward to meeting the wonderful NCOSS members who dedicate their lives to helping others, and working with them to build upon the strong foundations of this important peak body.”
