Budget outlines new Housing and Homelessness Agreement

Last night’s Budget saw the announcement of a new National Housing and Homelessness Agreement to replace the National Affordable Housing Agreement (NAHA). The good news is that the new agreement will include $375 million of homelessness funding, incorporating funding from the NPAH and securing it for three years from 2018-19.

The new NHHA will have funding linked to outcomes with targets for social and affordable housing, land planning and zoning reforms, inclusionary zoning, public housing renewal or transfer to community housing providers and homelessness services.

The Commonwealth will negotiate bilateral agreements with each state/territory that will outline clear targets and accountability for outcomes.

It is not yet clear how new targets will affect current services funded under the NAHA. We will continue to watch this closely as further details come to hand.
