In Using Measures That Really Matter,  Joseph Plummer, states that the social sector should not relate its work in any quantitative or qualitative way to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). 

In Using Measures That Really Matter,  Joseph Plummer, states that the social sector should not relate its work in any quantitative or qualitative way to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).  He argues that the architects of the GPD forgot about civil society and even if it does account for government spending and consumer giving, it does not consider volunteerism.  In addition, "GDP doesn’t include any insight on the health of a population, the national debt, the availability of water, the poverty rate, the affordability of health care, or access to high-quality education".
