The NSW Auditor's review of NSW government's Red Tape Reduction concluded that efforts  "to prevent and reduce red tape were not effective.  Reported red tape savings were inaccurate and the regulatory burden of legislation increased." In  'Judgement calls' on red tape savings don't stack up, the Mandarin article notes that complexity and cost burdens went up, despite NSW red tape reduction initiatives achieving their numerical target.  The DPC secretary Blair Comley responded by observing that "Estimating the benefits of red tape reduction requires a degree of judgement".
