Defining "charity" and reducing red tape

As part of their effort to reduce red tape within the Charity Sector, the ACNC has released a discussion paper, A common Charity Definition?, outlining the need for a single definition of charity that applies to all states and jurisdictions across Australia.  It discusses the implications of a single definition noting that there are 172 pieces of Commonwealth, state and territory legislation which reference "charity" or a related term and "of these acts, 45 of them define these terms,"
