Water is an essential commodity, but in tough times, many households can find it hard to pay their bills on time.

A lot of people don’t realise that there are a range of supports and assistance available for those struggling to keep their water account in the black.   According to a recent report put out by Sydney Water into their own customer access performance, in 2013/14 in the City of Sydney LGA alone, only 20 households accessed available financial assistance – despite the fact that more than 3700 households were behind in paying their bills.

Sydney Water is now looking to up its game and has issued a range of resources to get out the message about the sorts of assistance available – which can include flexible payment options, time to pay arrangements, Centrepay, Payment Assistance (PAS) credits, assistance with emergency plumbing needs and case coordination services for people experiencing longer-term payment difficulties.

Information about Sydney Water’s Payment Assistance Program can be found on their website. Information about Sydney Water’s pension rebates can be found on their website.

People struggling to pay their bill can call Sydney Water’s assistance line on 13 20 92.  Those needing the assistance of an independent financial counsellor can also call 1300 914 408.
