Open data, privacy and social license
Does privacy really matter if there is considerable benefit to researchers, businesses, etc, by providing access to large tranches of government data? In Expanding open data requires social license, Privacy Commissioner Timothy Pilgrim, and National Archives director-general David Fricker support the need for reform around data availability and use they agree with the Productivity Commission in the need to clarify and strengthen individual rights to privacy. However, they also believe there is a need to build social license before pushing ahead with open data.
