A new Red Cross report, World Disasters Report 2016 - Resilience: saving lives today, investing for tomorrow  calls for a radical change in the way we manage natural disasters.  They advocate for greater investment in preparing for disasters and mitigating risks. Building community resilience is part of this process requiring basic infrastructure and systems to be in place, such as social support systems, community cohesion and a culture of inclusiveness and trust. By doing so, lives can be saved and the huge costs of recovery can be reduced.
