All organisations need to have a communications policy in place, it as an essential part of governance.  The Governance Institute of Australia's new  Good Governance guide for NFPs states a policy could include or make reference to more detailed policies on: stakeholder engagement; use of social media; engagement with the media; use of systems and technology to assist with communications; the organisation's statutory obligations regarding communications; and fundraising.
