There is increasing awareness of growing inequality in Australia with extreme wealth on the one hand and extreme poverty on the other.  Governments are struggling with this problem but there are suggestions that philanthropy could be part of the solution. In Australia’s rich give little – and a culture of secrecy surrounds their philanthropy, Bronwen Dalton and Elizabeth Cham observe that  “There is a view that philanthropy from super-wealthy individuals, rather than government policy, will be the force that changes the world for the better. But, in Australia, this seems unlikely.”
